Kenya is bracing itself for heavy rains expected to hit most parts of the country for the next five days, as of October 18, 2019.
The Meteorological Department has warned of increased rainfall intensities countrywide, with six people already losing their lives in floods experienced in some counties.
Parts of Northeast, the Highlands East and West of Rift Valley, the Southeast Lowlands, Northwest, and the Coast will be affected.
The heavy rains will be accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, posing a significant threat to the country.
Government spokesperson Col. Cyrus Oguna identified 22 counties at risk of possible flooding, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Samburu, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Kwale, among others.
Residents have been urged to be cautious of lightning, landslides, and the outbreak of diseases due to the rains.
