On October 8, 2019, Father Michael Kyengo, a Catholic priest, was abducted from Thatha Parish in Machakos while on his way back from Masinga resort.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, two suspects have been arrested in connection with the priest's murder. One suspect, Michael Muthini Mutunga, is believed to have been involved in the actual killing, while the other, Solomon Mutava Wambua, is suspected of driving the priest's car to and from a house in Embu where the priest was killed.

The priest's body was later cut into pieces and stuffed in a gunny bag, which was disposed of in a shallow grave.

On the day of the incident, Father Kyengo had dropped off a worker at Kaewa market and then headed towards Masinga resort at around 9pm. He was reportedly kidnapped on his way back.
