Reggae music has come a long way in Kenya, and one of its biggest advocates is DJ Moh, a 32-year-old deejay who has been in the industry for over a decade.
According to an interview published on October 18, 2019, DJ Moh, whose real name is Nicholas Mugo, started his journey in music at a young age. He was trained by DJ Krowbar in 2005 and formed an outfit called NickDee Entertainment with his brother, DJ Kym, the following year.
After honing his skills at Dohty Family, an entertainment firm that specializes in reggae music, DJ Moh decided to take a leap of faith and start his own company, Mohspice Entertainment, in 2016. The move has proven to be a successful one, with the company hosting reggae events and bringing in international artistes like Daville and Duane Stephenson.
When asked about his decision to pursue deejaying as a career, DJ Moh said, 'I have always had a deep love for music, and I knew very early in life that I wanted to pursue a career in that line.'
Despite facing numerous challenges in the industry, DJ Moh remains optimistic and believes that with hard work, patience, and a willingness to learn, anyone can achieve their goals.
As for his advice to young Kenyans, DJ Moh says, 'Start by believing that it is possible, no matter where you're from or what your current situation is. Believe, then work every day towards your goal. Be patient, grateful, and humble, and always respect your predecessors.'
