On October 17th, 2019, KANU Chairman Gideon Moi made a significant announcement at the party headquarters in Nairobi, stating that the party would support ODM candidate Imran Okoth in the upcoming Kibra by-elections.
According to Moi, the decision was made in the spirit of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga, which aimed to bring together rival political parties and promote unity.
"It is important to come out strongly and show our support to the ODM candidate in the spirit of the handshake," Moi said during a meeting of the Kanu Youth Congress.
As part of the party's efforts to support Okoth, Moi instructed KANU Secretary General Nick Salat to constitute a team to drum up support for the ODM candidate in Kibra.
Notably, Moi also used the opportunity to address allegations that KANU is a party of the old, stating that such claims were baseless and that the party was committed to embracing youth leadership and participation in politics.
"The party's constitution provides for the formation of a strong youth structure that begins at the grassroots," Moi said, emphasizing the party's resolve to promote youth involvement in politics.
