Published on October 18, 2019, Kenya Sevens stars Collins Injera and William 'Lomu' Ambaka are back and ready to help the team regain its rightful place in the World Rugby Sevens Series.
The duo, who were among 16 senior players who missed out last season after failing to take up new contracts that lowered their pay, have been named to the Kenya Sevens team Shujaa for this weekend's Safari Sevens.
Speaking publicly about the issue for the first time, Injera emphasized the importance of the game and the need for the Kenya Rugby Union to find better ways to resolve problems.
'Personally, I didn't lose anything because I played for my Mwamba side at the local Kenya Cup league,' said Injera. 'I also took part in the local Sevens Series and at the end of the day, it's the game of rugby.'
Injera added that there was no way he could have stayed at Kenya Sevens with nothing tangible to take home, saying 'there are hard decisions one has to make and I couldn't have stayed around with nothing to fend for my family.'
Ambaka, on the other hand, believes their absence gave other upcoming players an opportunity to put their hands up for selection.
