On October 18, 2019, the Ganda Ward by-election in Malindi, Kilifi County, saw a decisive victory for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Rueben Katana.
Mr. Katana garnered 4,177 votes, beating Independent candidate Abdul Omar, who secured 2,331 votes.
Other contenders, including Jubilee party's Joseph Kiponda and Kadu Asili's David Mitsanze, trailed behind with 589 and 362 votes, respectively.
The seat had been a subject of intense competition, with Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, backed by DP William Ruto, attempting to wrest it from the Raila Odinga-led party in a bid to assert her political influence in the coastal region.
The by-election was necessitated by the High Court's nullification of the August 7, 2017, election of Abdulrahman Mohamed Omar due to irregularities and illegalities.
