Kakamega Police Officer Accuses Seniors of Discrimination

On October 17, 2019, a Kakamega police officer held a press conference in Kakamega, Kenya, where she accused her seniors of discriminating against her due to her minority tribe and refusing to assign her areas where she can make money.

The officer, who joined the service in 2001 and was transferred to Kakamega county in 2009, claimed she was being deliberately discriminated against because she comes from a minority tribe and has no means to bribe her seniors to assign her places she can make money.

She alleged that her seniors were assigning her areas with no handouts, which has left her stressed and frustrated. The officer, who has been surviving on her salary, claimed that there are many jobs in the service that she can be assigned to make money, but her seniors are refusing to give her such opportunities.

She specifically mentioned special duties, Huduma Namba, and looking after containers as jobs that she can be assigned to make money, but her seniors have been denying her these opportunities.

The officer, who is married to a Luhya police officer, dared the service to sack her rather than subject her to constant frustrations. She also called on the Interior CS, Fred Matiang'i, and the Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, to intervene and help her.

She posed the question, 'Why can't my bosses do justice? I am ready to be fired. Why can't they assign me areas where I can get money?'

She also claimed that she was only assigned the job of looking after containers after four days because her seniors thought she was making a lot of money in the area.
