Kenya Sevens team, Shujaa, is gearing up for the 23rd edition of the Safari Sevens tournament, which kicks off today at the RFUEA Grounds. The team, led by coach Paul Feeney, will use the tournament as a crucial test ahead of the busy 2019/2020 season.

Shujaa will be competing in Group C alongside South African club Blue Bulls, Russia Academy, and Zambia. The team's focus, however, is on the upcoming Africa Sevens-cum-2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifying tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa, and the 2019/2020 World Rugby Sevens Series.

Collins Injera, the team's second all-time top scorer, believes the Safari Sevens will offer a perfect training ground for the team. Injera, who is making a return to the team alongside Kenya Harlequin's William Ambaka, says their key focus is on the Olympic qualifiers.

"I feel great to be back in the team after being out for one season. We've trained well for the last couple of weeks and we are ready for the tournament," Injera told Standard Sports.

Shujaa will be looking to reclaim the title they last won in 2016, but their main priority is the upcoming Olympic qualifiers. The tournament will also serve as a test for the team's new coach, Paul Feeney, who replaced Paul Murunga in August.
