On October 18, 2019, a Murang'a court handed down a 20-year prison sentence to Samuel Kamau, 29, for the murder of his 70-year-old father, Nyoike Mwaura.
The incident occurred on August 6 at Gitura village in Kandara, where Kamau and his father had a disagreement over avocados.
High Court Judge Kanyi Kimondo presided over the case and sentenced Kamau to 20 years in prison, citing the seriousness of the offense and the need for the accused to take full responsibility for his actions.
During the sentencing, Kamau expressed remorse for his actions and requested a chance to reconcile with his family, but the judge deemed a custodial sentence the only just outcome.
“The accused must shoulder the full responsibility of his actions owing to the nature of the offence. I find that a custodial sentence is the only just sentence for him,” ruled Kimondo.
