Maktaba Mashinani, a Swahili term for rural libraries, is on a mission to bring quality education and reading materials to rural communities in Kenya.

On October 18, 2019, the organization will launch a mobile library in Iltolish Mara, Trans Mara, Narok County, which will serve as a hub for various stakeholders to provide reading materials for schools and students in the region.

The event aims to launch a community library that can accommodate 150 people and donate books to 12 schools, each with an average of 400 students, benefiting over 4,500 students.

Maktaba Mashinani is partnering with organizations such as Moran Publishers EA, SixtyOne Photography, and KINI mara Foundation to make this project a success.

Aside from providing books, the organization will run educational, motivational, and mentorship programs to address issues like early pregnancies, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and early marriages that force underage girls out of school.

The event will be attended by the Narok County Governor, Samuel Kuntai Ole Tunai, and representatives from the national government, local investors, and partnering organizations.

Maktaba Mashinani encourages the creation of a reading culture across the country, emphasizing that libraries are not a luxury but a necessity for liberating minds and promoting freedom beyond monetary handouts.
