On October 28, 2019, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) was set to begin its recruitment exercise, but the government has since cancelled it.

The decision comes after members of the Parliamentary Defence and Foreign Relations Committee clashed with Defence CS Raychelle Omamo over the recruitment centers.

The MPs had opposed the government's plan to hold the recruitment at the county headquarters, arguing that it would lock out hundreds of youths.

Defence Committee Chair Katoo Ole Metito confirmed that the ministry had cancelled the earlier advertisement on the exercise taking place between October 28 to November 7.

"We resolved as a committee that the ministry reverts to sub-counties as recruitment centres. The ministry has since informed the committee that the advertisement has been cancelled and new dates for recruitment will be announced," said Ole Metito.

New dates are set to be announced for the exercise to take place at the ward level.
