On October 16, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta revoked the appointments of Kenya Ferry Services board members, including Chairman Dan Mwazo, in a Gazette notice.

The move comes after the Likoni ferry tragedy, in which a mother and daughter mysteriously sunk in the Indian Ocean after their car slid off the ferry on September 29, 2019.

Five people have since been grilled by police in connection with the incident, including the coxswain of the ill-fated MV Harambee Amos Bushuru, two private security guards, and two other top officials at KFS.

Kenya Ferry Services Managing Director Bakari Gowa was yet to be grilled by police at the time of the Gazette notice.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's decision to dissolve the board comes just two months after Dan Mwazo's appointment as Chairman of KFS.
