On October 17, 2019, the Nation reported that two-time Olympic 800m champion David Rudisha would be part of the elite athletes at the Watamu Sports Festival.
The event, held at Turtle Bay Resort in Kilifi, aimed to motivate athletes in the grueling 800m event and serve as Kenya's multi-sport national championship.
Participants sought to represent the country at the 2020 International Triathlon Union World Multi-Sport Championships in Almere, Netherlands.
The festival featured various disciplines, including Standard Duathlon, Sprint Duathlon, Cross Triathlon, and Aquathlon.
David Rudisha would participate in the 10km standard duathlon run, according to race director Vincent Ochieng, who stated that the event aimed to promote local sports tourism.
