On October 17, 2019, twenty Kenyans petitioned the High Court to withdraw Kenya from a border dispute filed by Somalia before the International Court of Justice.

The petitioners, represented by lawyer Kibe Mungai, argued that the decision to participate in the suit was wrong and posed a risk of forfeiting part of Kenya's territory if the ICJ ruled in favor of Somalia.

According to Mungai, the government should prioritize its national interest and territorial integrity by not seeking to compromise its territorial boundaries.

However, the government, represented by lawyer Paul Nyamodi, countered that the petition was based on an assumption that the ICJ would rule in favor of Somalia.

Nyamodi argued that Kenya had taken steps to ensure its citizens' interests, territorial integrity, and independence were not compromised.

The judges, Kanyi Kimondo, Robert Limo, and Anthony Mrima, will rule on the matter on November 7.
