On October 16, 2019, Pastor-cum-politician Robert Kibe Githongo, a Kiambu County Assembly Member, was released on Sh1 million bond in a forgery case related to his academic certificates.
Mr. Githongo, who is also a pastor of the Africa Independent Pentecostal Church, was arrested by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on October 16, 2019, over allegations of forging his academic documents.
According to the EACC, Mr. Githongo allegedly forged his KCSE certificate to pursue a diploma course at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
He was released on Sh1 million bond and a surety of a similar amount with the alternative of Sh800,000 cash bail.
Mr. Githongo denied the charges before Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi, who directed that the case be mentioned on October 31, 2019, to fix the hearing dates.
The case against Mr. Githongo involves four counts of charges, including providing false information to EACC, making a false document, uttering a false document, and making a false declaration.
