On Wednesday, Lionel Messi was presented with the Golden Shoe award for the sixth time in his career, following his impressive 36 league goals for Barcelona last season.
The award, which is given to the player who scores the most goals in Europe's top divisions, has been won by notable players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez, Diego Forlan, and Thierry Henry in the past.
Published on October 17, 2019, Messi's achievement marks the third consecutive year he has won the award, following 37 goals in the 2016-2017 season and 34 in 2017-2018.
However, Messi's start to the 2019-2020 campaign has been hampered by injuries, and he has only scored once in La Liga in three appearances, which came in Barcelona's last game, a 4-0 win over Sevilla.
Despite this, Messi is expected to return to action when Barcelona travels to Eibar on Saturday and will need to be at his best during El Clasico on October 26, where he will face his arch-rivals Madrid.
