On October 17, 2019, Senior Mombasa Magistrate Vincent Adet released Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and her aide Geoffrey Okuto Otieno on a Sh1 million bond each, pending investigations into the fatal by-poll chaos in Ganda, Malindi.

The duo had spent a night in Mombasa police cells after being arrested over the murder of Ngumbao Jola, 48, who was shot in the chest and killed on Tuesday.

State lawyer Alloys Kemo had argued that Jumwa was a confrontational and violent person who should be restrained and kept away from the elections.

However, Magistrate Adet ruled that Jumwa's liberty was precious and should not be denied without reasons in accordance with the law.

He noted that the two co-accused could help with the investigations without necessarily being in detention and ordered them to present themselves before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Malinda on Tuesday to assist with the probe.
