Beatrice Elachi, the embattled Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly, has received a boost in her bid to retain her position after the Jubilee party announced its support for her.

The announcement was made after a consultative party meeting led by Secretary General Raphael Tuju on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

According to Jubilee, in his capacity as SG, Raphael Tuju has facilitated a truce within the County Assembly, with one of the resolutions being that the leadership of the County Assembly will expedite Speaker Beatrice Elachi's resumption to office.

Members of the County Assembly (MCA) allied to the Jubilee party are expected to escalate the push for Elachi's return to office.

Elachi's return to office was previously met with chaos and confusion last week when she made a forceful return accompanied by 20 MCAs from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Anti-riot police were called in to City Hall moments after the 7am debacle, and Elachi warned that she would move 'all the way up to the Supreme Court if necessary'.

Elachi had been impeached by the assembly in September 2018 only to be reinstated by a court order, to the displeasure of the assembly.
