Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has taken the National Employment Authority (NEA) to court over the appointment of Mary Wambui as its chairperson, citing her unfitness for the role.

Published on October 17, 2019, the move comes after widespread public outcry over Wambui's appointment, with many Kenyans questioning her qualifications and age.

According to Sakaja, Wambui's appointment goes against Section 10 (2) of the National Employment Authority Act, which requires the chairperson to have at least 7 years of Human Resource Management (HRM) experience or its equivalent.

"I have instructed my lawyers as well as those of the Young Parliamentarians Association to file a petition this morning to quash this appointment," Sakaja said in a statement.

The petition names Labour Cabinet Secretary, Attorney General Paul Kihara, and Mary Wambui Munene as respondents.

Wambui's appointment has been met with criticism from many Kenyans, who argue that she is unqualified and too old for the position.
