On October 17, 2019, a chaotic morning commute turned into a nightmare for motorists along the Thika Superhighway in Kenya, as a six-car pile-up brought traffic to a standstill.

At least six vehicles, including four Passenger Service Vehicles (PSVs) and two personal cars, a double cabin pickup and a Toyota Probox, were involved in the 6:30am accident.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when a Virgina Coach bus, which was trying to overtake another vehicle, skidded off the slippery road caused by the morning rain and hit the guard rail.

Oncoming vehicles then collided with the two buses and stalled in the middle of the road due to poor visibility.

Police at the scene struggled to divert traffic as heavy rain hampered visibility and other motorists slowed down to catch a glimpse of the accident.

Fortunately, no major injuries were reported, and the accident scene was quickly cleared, but the traffic jam persisted.
