On October 12, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge made history by becoming the first person to run a marathon in under two hours in Vienna, Austria.
Senators have praised Kipchoge, Brigid Kosgei, and the Kenyan team that participated in the IAAF world athletics championships in Doha, Qatar, for bringing honor to the country.
The team won five Gold, two Silver, and four Bronze medals, emerging second position out of 206 participating countries.
According to the senators, the athletes' achievements were inspiring and should be continued by other Kenyans.
They urged the government to ensure athletes have good training grounds and to look into the affairs of sportsmen and women with the seriousness they deserve.
Some athletes are living in squalor despite bringing honor and respect for the country, the senators noted.
