On October 17, 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended the WellChild Awards, where they met 10-year-old Emmie Narayan-Nicholas, a leukemia patient who had won an award for her idea to set up a restaurant at the hospital.

During the event, Meghan was praised by Emmie's mother, Eve, who said, "When she sat down, I said ‘oh you look amazing and you’ve just had a baby.’" Prince Harry responded with a smile, saying, "See I told you!" in a way that suggested he had been reassuring Meghan about her appearance.

Later in the evening, Prince Harry delivered a heartfelt speech, breaking down in tears as he talked about Meghan's pregnancy. He said, "My wife and I feel incredibly privileged to be able to join you once again at this year’s WellChild Awards, and to be in a room with such amazing human beings." He also spoke about the emotional journey of becoming parents, saying, "And now, as parents, being here and speaking to all of you pulls at my heart strings in a way I could have never understood until I had a child of my own."
