Published on October 17, 2019, a new global report by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) has revealed that Kenyans are not only the most optimistic people in Africa but also the most generous.

According to the World Giving Index 2019, Kenya ranked 11th globally in terms of generosity, with 47 percent of its population donating to charity. This is a testament to the country's strong culture of philanthropy and community support.

The report, which was conducted by Gallup and sampled views of over 1.3 million people in 125 countries between 2009 and 2018, focused on three key areas: helping strangers, donating money to charity, and volunteering time to an organization.

In the helping strangers category, Kenya came in fourth, with 68 percent of its population willing to lend a hand. In donating money, Kenya ranked 34th, with 38 percent of its population donating to charity. In volunteering time, Kenya ranked 13th, with 37 percent of its population volunteering their time to an organization.

Kenya's generosity has earned it a spot in the top 20 most generous nations, with Nigeria ranked 22nd and Zambia 32nd. The world's most generous country is the USA, with 58 percent of its population donating to charity.

The report also highlighted the top 10 least generous countries, which include China, Greece, Yemen, Serbia, State of Palestine, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Croatia, and Russia.
