On October 17, 2019, Lawrence Cherono, the Boston Marathon champion, returned home to a hero's welcome at the Eldoret International Airport. His mother, Mary Cherono, adorned him with a traditional garland, a symbol of pride and achievement.

Cherono's recent victory in the Chicago Marathon, where he clocked 2 hours 5 minutes and 45 seconds, was a testament to his hard work and determination. He edged out Ethiopians Dejene Debela and Asefa Mengstu, who finished in second and third place respectively.

When asked about his strategy, Cherono revealed that watching Eliud Kipchoge's 'INEOS 1:59 Challenge' had inspired him to push through and secure the top spot. 'I watched Kipchoge running and I must say he really inspired me, that's what pushed me to hang on in the leading group,' he said.

Cherono's achievement is a significant milestone in his career, and he is now focusing on representing Kenya in the Olympics Games in Tokyo, Japan. 'I want to represent the country in the Olympics Games in Tokyo, Japan. That's my dream. I will be keeping my fingers crossed,' he said.
