On October 17, 2019, Robert Githongo Kibe, a Kiambu Member of County Assembly (MCA) and pastor, appeared in a Nairobi court facing forgery charges.

According to the prosecution, on March 2, 2017, in Nairobi, Mr Githongo produced a forged diploma claiming it was issued by Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in 2015.

He presented the diploma to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) as part of a process to gain a Certificate of Integrity.

Prosecutor Vivian Kambaga urged the court to consider the seriousness of the offence and impose tough bail terms, citing the accused's potential to interfere with witnesses.

However, Mr Githongo pleaded for lenient bond terms, stating he is innocent until proven guilty and no evidence has been produced against him.

Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi released him on a Sh1 million bond or a cash bail of Sh800,000, with the matter set to be mentioned on November 31, 2019.
