Published on October 17, 2019, by Men's Health, a leading men's lifestyle magazine, this article highlights the importance of stretching after long periods of sitting, whether it's on a flight or at a desk.
According to Charlee Atkins, a certified trainer, people often overlook the impact of prolonged sitting on their bodies. 'When we spend most of our lives in the sitting position, our bodies start to adapt to that position,' she explains. 'If you add in training to that mix, it's a recipe for disaster—more specifically, injury.'
Atkins recommends a series of six exercises that can be done anywhere, without any equipment. These include the Greatest Stretch in the World (+ Rotation), Low Lunge to Half Split, Down dog and Alternating Leg Lift, Down dog and Up dog Combo, Shoulder Cars, and Adductor Rocker.
Each exercise should be performed for 30 seconds to 1 minute before moving to the next. It's recommended to take on the series for 1 to 3 rounds, depending on how you feel, and focus on slow, controlled movements.
