On October 16, 2019, the Assets Recovery Agency moved to court seeking to forfeit assets linked to the Ngirita family, including three vehicles and several parcels of land, citing that they were proceeds of crime.

The agency's claim stems from an investigation into the family's bank statements and documents, which revealed that they received funds fraudulently from the National Youth Service (NYS) in several transactions.

Phyllis Ngirita, Lucy Wambui, and Jeremiah Gichina, members of the Ngirita family, have been accused of failing to demonstrate how they acquired the properties and money subject to forfeiture.

Assets Recovery Agency investigator Fredrick Musyoki stated that the family failed to provide evidence of legitimate business activities or supply of goods to the NYS, despite claims of supplying goods worth Sh5.8 million in 2014.

Mr. Musyoki further noted that a significant difference of Sh32,874,670 in the claimed supply of goods has not been explained.

The case will be heard on November 18.
