On October 16, 2019, a Kenyan court ordered DNA tests to confirm the paternity of twins allegedly fathered by Fidel Castro Odinga, son of ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Justice Aggrey Muchelule directed the family members to cooperate during the extraction of blood samples and to decide where the tests will be conducted.

The family dispute revolves around the twins, with Fidel's widow Lwam Getachew Bekele accused of sidelining them in favor of a child she gave birth to with Fidel.

Ida and Winnie Odinga, Fidel's mother and sister, claim Lwam is aware of the twins but has chosen to ignore them.

However, Lwam disputes this, stating that the birth certificates attached by the Odingas do not show who the father of the twins is, and that they were born six months after Fidel's death.

“However, should it be proved that the said minors were sired by the deceased, I will include them in the estate. I have never intermeddled with the estate of the deceased person either before or after being issued with the grant of letters of administration intestate,” Lwam adds.

The case has been ongoing, with the family's assets, including properties in Karen, Kisumu, and Kajiado, as well as shares in Axum Investments Limited and Ambesa Investments Limited, at the center of the dispute.

The case will be mentioned on November 13.
