Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa was arrested on October 16, 2019, following a fracas at the homestead of Ganda Ward ODM Party candidate Reuben Katana.
According to police records, Jumwa arrived at Katana's home in a convoy of three vehicles accompanied by her aides and supporters, claiming that the ODM faction was holding a campaign meeting after the deadline given by the IEBC had elapsed.
The confrontation, which escalated into gunshots, claimed the life of 48-year-old Ngumbao Jola, the uncle of ODM aspirant Reuben Katana.
A supporter of Mr. Katana alleged that Jumwa and her goons disrupted a peaceful meeting, leading to chaos and the shooting of Jola.
Jumwa and her co-accused will be taken to court on October 17, 2019, to face charges in connection with the gun drama.
The Mombasa court will then decide whether to rule in favour of the prosecution, which seeks to have the legislator detained for 21 days as the investigation continues.
