Published on October 16, 2019, by Men's Health, a close-grip pushup is a valuable exercise for targeting the triceps, but it requires perfect form to be effective.
According to Ebenezer Samuel, C.S.C.S., fitness director of Men's Health, the key to a successful close-grip pushup is a strong plank position, with a rigid torso and a straight line from shoulders to feet.
However, many people make a common mistake by bringing their hands close together, forming a diamond shape, which can lead to over-involvement of the chest muscles and under-involvement of the triceps.
Instead, Samuel recommends setting the hands up slightly tighter than shoulder-width apart, allowing the elbows to stay close to the torso and the arms to move only in the sagittal plane.
By following these tips, you can ensure that you're targeting your triceps effectively and getting the most out of the exercise.
