Published on October 16, 2019, a report by Uhondo News revealed a brewing conflict within the Odinga family. Susan Odinga, the widow of Kenya's First Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, is facing eviction from her home in Kisumu's posh Milimani estate.
The house, where Susan has lived for nearly twenty years, is set to be upgraded as a national heritage. National Museums of Kenya officers visited the house to facilitate the process, leaving Susan shocked and concerned.
According to a museum official, Susan was told that the home needs to be refurbished to improve the infrastructure. The official attributed the decision to upgrade the house to Raila Odinga, the AU Special Envoy for Infrastructure, who is behind the scheme to allow President Uhuru to visit the house during the launch of the Ksh 3 billion Kisumu Port.
The eviction of Susan from the house is expected to cause further wrangles and problems within the Odinga family, adding to their existing legal battles, including a dispute with late Fidel Odinga's widow over a multi-billion empire.
