Published on October 16, 2019, La Liga has requested the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to move this month's El Clasico match between Barcelona and Real Madrid to Madrid due to growing protests and political tensions in Catalonia.

The request comes after nine Catalan separatist leaders were jailed for between nine and 13 years for their role in an illegal referendum and subsequent failed independence bid, sparking widespread protests and clashes across the region.

The match is scheduled to take place on October 26 at Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium, but La Liga is seeking to reverse the fixture due to ongoing trouble throughout the autonomous region.

As a result, the second Clasico meeting of the season is expected to take place in Madrid in March next year.
