On October 16, 2019, members of the Busia county assembly unanimously passed a report recommending the construction of a Sh3 million gym within the assembly precincts.

The gym, intended for the use of MCAs and assembly staff, aims to promote physical fitness and prevent non-communicable diseases, according to Deputy Speaker Lawrence Okaale.

Nominated MCA Florence Ologi hailed the proposal, while her counterpart Nancy Okademi saw it as a means to improve the performance of the Busia Assembly team in inter-county games.

Speaker Bernard Wamalwa gave an ad hoc committee until February 2020 to table the report for implementation by the house.
