On October 16, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the 8th Annual Congress of the Forum of Chairs of Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices in Kericho County, urging the bodies to use the resources available to them effectively.
He noted that sufficient resources, autonomy, and zero controls from the government had created a fertile ground for the various commissions and independent offices to flourish.
"You have no reason not to meet the expectations of Kenyans; the three arms of the government, too, have to appropriate their functions to their optimal," said the Head of State.
President Kenyatta emphasized that the overriding purpose of appraisals was not to blame one another, but rather to give credit where due while encouraging better performance and results.
Deputy President William Ruto lauded the contribution of the independent commissions in fostering Kenya's democratic growth and urged them to solidify their collaborative effort and give guidance and insight on major legal, governance, and constitutional issues.
The event was attended by several county leaders, including Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony and Senator Aaron Cheruiyot.
