On October 15, 2019, Majority Leader in the Senate Kipchumba Murkomen fired back at ODM chairman John Mbadi with a witty comparison of his position on recent appointments by President Uhuru Kenyatta to the storyline in George Orwell's classic novel Animal Farm.
The exchange began when Mbadi, during an interview on KTN News, urged the youth to look for other employment opportunities rather than focusing on board appointments.
“We need to look for solutions for unemployment but the solution is not board appointments. Boards in my view are not employment. Young people should not be crying for board appointments,” Mbadi said.
Mbadi's remarks were triggered by the appointment of former Othaya MP Mary Wambui to chair the National Employment Authority, which has been roundly criticised by the youth on social media.
Murkomen's witty comparison of Mbadi's position on the matter with the story line in Animal Farm was made on Twitter, where he tweeted: “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which. “Animal Farm”
The tweet, which has sparked a heated debate on social media, has left many wondering who the creatures, pig and man, refer to.
