Chile striker Alexis Sanchez, on loan at Inter Milan from Manchester United, may require surgery on his ankle after an injury in a match against Colombia last week.

Sanchez injured tendons in his left ankle when he was fouled towards the end of the match, forcing him to miss a friendly win over Guinea on Tuesday.

Inter Milan stated that Sanchez underwent medical tests, which revealed a joint dislocation in his left ankle and damage to the peroneus longus tendon.

Sanchez, 30, will meet with Professor Ramon Cugat in Barcelona on Wednesday to discuss whether surgical intervention is necessary.

Chile coach Reinaldo Rueda had previously estimated that Sanchez could be out of action for two to three months if the injury required surgery.

Sanchez has scored once for Inter Milan in four appearances in all competitions.
