Kenya has taken a significant step in modernizing its transportation infrastructure with the commissioning of the JKIA – Westlands expressway, a Sh65 billion toll road project.

On October 16, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta officially launched the massive infrastructural project, which will be a first of its kind in Kenya, featuring elevated sections and a total length of 27km.

The project, which is expected to reduce congestion from the airport greatly, will be undertaken by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis. CRBC will build the road using its own money and recoup its investment by collecting toll fees.

Construction time is estimated to be 24 months, with a projected completion date of December 2021. The project is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce travel time for commuters.

Artist impressions of the massive project have now surfaced, showcasing its scale and grandeur.
