On Wednesday, October 16, 2019, world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge made a low-key return to the country, following his historic feat in Vienna, Austria.
Contrary to his departure, where he flew out of the country from Eldoret to Vienna on a private jet owned by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Kipchoge's return was quiet.
His achievement in Vienna marked a significant milestone in athletics, as he became the first athlete to run a marathon in under two hours, beating the previous record by 20 seconds.
On Saturday, October 12, 2019, Kipchoge covered 42.2km in one hour 59 minutes 40 seconds in the Ineos 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, setting a new record.
