Catholic Priest Brutally Murdered in Embu County

On October 7, 2019, Father Michael Kyengo, a Catholic priest, was kidnapped from his Thatha Parish in Machakos County. The kidnappers slit his throat, cut his body, and buried him in a shallow grave on a riverbed.

Almost a week later, on October 14, 2019, two of the four killers were arrested on Mombasa Highway in Makindu area with Father Kyengo's car. They later took police to the place where they had buried the priest's body, located on the banks of Gathingiri river in Embu County.

Police are yet to determine the motive behind the killing and intend to exhume the body on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, with a team of experts, including a pathologist, set to examine the site. Detectives are also searching for two more suspects in connection with the incident.

According to the Head of Special Crimes Prevention Unit, Pius Gitari, they are following crucial leads on the whereabouts of the missing suspects.
