Kenyan Athlete Brigid Kosgei Nominated for IAAF Female Athlete of the Year

On October 13, 2019, Brigid Kosgei made history by setting a new world record of 2 hours 14 minutes and 04 seconds to win the Chicago Marathon.

Her impressive performance earned her a spot among 11 nominees for the 2019 IAAF Female Athlete of the Year award, alongside compatriots Beatrice Chepkoech and Hellen Obiri.

According to the IAAF, the nominees were selected by an international panel of athletics experts from all six continental areas of the IAAF.

‘The IAAF is pleased to confirm a list of 11 nominees for Female World Athlete of the Year who were selected by an international panel of athletics experts, comprising representatives from all six continental areas of the IAAF,’ the IAAF said.

Earlier this year, Kosgei, 25, ran the fastest ever 2 half of a marathon to win her 1 London title.

The awards are set to take place on the 23rd of the same month in Monaco.
