On October 16, 2019, Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa was arrested in connection with a violent incident at the home of ODM candidate Ruben Katana in Malindi, Kilifi County.
The chaos erupted ahead of the Ganda Ward by-election, which was scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 17, 2019.
According to reports, Jumwa stormed a meeting of ODM agents at Katana's house, leading to a scuffle between rival party supporters.
One person was killed in the incident, and several others were injured.
Meanwhile, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had summoned ODM Chairman John Mbadi over violence in the Kibra by-elections over the weekend.
IEBC required Mbadi to file the party's response to the accusations within 24 hours and appear at the IEBC headquarters on Friday.
McDonald Mariga, the Jubilee candidate, had accused ODM supporters of targeting his supporters with violence.
