On October 17, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta officially launched the Standard Gauge Railway Phase 2A, a major milestone in Kenya's transportation infrastructure.
The 120km railway line connects Mombasa through Nairobi to the resort town of Naivasha, where a dry port is under construction to ease the movement of goods.
The railway line features three tunnels with a total length of 7.15km, 29 bridges, including the 46-meter tall Mulua Orkondi bridge in Narok County, and four intermediate stations: Ongata Rongai, Ngong, Maai Mahiu, and Suswa, with one passing station at Nachu.
The Nairobi-Naivasha railway line has been under construction since October 2016, with the China Communications Construction Company undertaking the construction.
The launch of the Standard Gauge Railway Phase 2A marked a significant achievement in Kenya's transportation sector, with the railway line expected to improve the movement of goods and people.
