On October 16, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta paid an unscheduled visit to the refurbished Kisumu port, marking a significant development in the region's infrastructure.
Accompanied by local leaders, the Head of State conducted an inspection of the ongoing works at the port in Kisumu, a lakeside city in western Kenya.
Security was tight at the port, with police officers enforcing restricted entry and denying access to members of the press.
According to a source, President Kenyatta had flown to Kisumu after commissioning the second phase of the Standard Gauge Railway in Suswa.
During his visit, Mr. Kenyatta and his entourage toured the port, the Kenya Maritime Institute, and the area where the giant vessel MV Uhuru had docked.
