As the Kibra parliamentary by-election enters its final stretch, top leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are set to intensify their campaigns in the constituency.

Deputy party leaders Hassan Joho, the Mombasa governor, and Wycliffe Oparanya, the Kakamega governor, will be deployed to Kibra to bolster campaigns for Imran Okoth, the ODM candidate.

According to George Aladwa, the ODM Nairobi chairman, Joho and Oparanya will lead a series of rallies and town hall meetings in the constituency, starting with events in Lindi and Laini Saba wards on October 20, after Mashujaa Day.

“We will hold rallies in Lindi and Laini Saba wards. Joho and Oparanya will lead the rallies,” Aladwa said.

The ODM leaders will also conduct door-to-door visits to win over voters, Aladwa added.

On November 3, party leader Raila Odinga will join the campaign team for the final rally at the Kamukunji Grounds in Kibra.

ODM has controlled Kibra for more than two decades, but the party's grip on the constituency has been threatened by Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga and ANC's Eliud Owalo.

Aladwa accused Jubilee of bribing and manipulating voters, calling on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to be vigilant and ban candidates who engage in such practices.
