Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa Arrested Over Ganda Ward Chaos

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has been arrested at her home in Mombasa following chaos at the home of ODM candidate for Ganda Ward by-election, where one person was shot dead.

According to reports, Jumwa stormed the home of Ruben Katana on Tuesday, October 15, evening, to protest the meeting the candidate was holding with his agents. The incident sparked instant confrontation, resulting in the shooting of Katana's uncle.

Police camped outside Jumwa's home for the better part of Tuesday night after she denied them access. However, they managed to gain access in the early hours of Wednesday, October 16, and arrested her alongside four other suspects.

The suspects are currently being detained at KPA Police Station in Mombasa. Jumwa had earlier denied reports of her arrest, stating that she was not arrested in connection with the chaos.

She also dismissed accusations linking her to the shooting of Katana's uncle, stating that the chaos erupted after she had left the scene.

The Ganda Ward seat fell vacant after the election of Abdul Omar, an independent candidate in the mini-poll who is supported by Jumwa. The election will be held on Thursday, October 17.
