On October 16, 2019, a violent confrontation between rival ODM Party supporters in Ganda Ward, Malindi, Kilifi County, left one person dead and several others injured.
Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa was among those arrested by the police, led by Kilifi County commander Patrick Okeri, who stormed her house in the early hours of the morning.
According to eyewitnesses, Jumwa stormed the house of Reuben Katana, the ODM candidate in the upcoming Ganda Ward by-elections, where a meeting was underway to plan the party's strategy for the October 17 polls.
It is alleged that Jumwa questioned the timing of the meeting, which was held at night, despite the campaign period having lapsed.
During the confrontation, Gumbao Jola, the uncle of Katana, was shot dead, and several others sustained injuries.
"We are not sure where they have been taken, but it's outside Malindi," said a source.
