Youthful Appointments in Uhuru's Government Raise Eyebrows

President Uhuru Kenyatta's government has been criticized for appointing several elderly individuals to key positions, sparking outrage among Kenyans.

One such appointment is that of Mary Wambui, a 69-year-old former Othaya MP, who was recently appointed the chairperson of the National Employment Authority for a term of three years.

Wambui's appointment comes at a time when SportPesa laid off over 400 youthful workers, leaving many wondering why the government is prioritizing the employment of older individuals.

Other Notable Appointments

  • Moody Awori, 91, was appointed a member of the Sports, Art and Social Development Fund Board in 2018.
  • Francis Muthaura, 71, was appointed the chairman of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2018.
  • Chris Obure, 75, was appointed the Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development.
