Kenya has emerged as the most generous country in Africa, with over half of its citizens donating money to charity, according to the World Giving Index.
Released on October 16, 2019, by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), the report ranked Kenya as the second most improved country globally and the 11th overall, with a 47% increase in generosity.
The study, which involved views of over 1.3 million people in 125 countries, looked at how people give their time and money to causes they care about over the last decade.
CAF CEO John Low noted that the survey, conducted by Gallup, took place between 2009 and 2018.
Kenya's high ranking is attributed to its citizens' willingness to help strangers, donate money to charity, and volunteer their time to organizations.
According to the report, men are generally more likely to help the destitute than women, with 49% of men versus 46% of women helping a stranger.
However, the report also reveals that older people are least likely to help a stranger, particularly in the developed world, while the tendency to donate money generally increases with age.
