On September 16, 2019, Justice Jessie Lessit issued a court order barring all parties in the case of Tob Cohen's murder from addressing the media. However, the office of Director of Public Prosecutions and Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti allegedly disobeyed this order.
Sarah Wairimu, a suspect in the murder of her husband, filed an application at the High Court on Tuesday accusing the two agencies of disobeying the court order. Through her lawyer Philip Murgor, Ms Wairimu claims that the DCI in a series of tweets posted on September 18 purported to give an unsolicited and uninformed opinion which assumes her guilt.
Ms Wairimu further accuses the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions of providing information published by a local daily and a Dutch Newspaper on September 30 with respect to the ongoing investigations of the case.
Ms Wairimu now wants DCI boss George Kinoti, State Prosecutor Juma Victor Owiti, and Daily Nation journalist John Kamau detained in prison for a term not exceeding six months for contempt of court.
The court said Wairimu's application will be heard on October 30, 2019.
