On October 16, 2019, a bizarre incident occurred in Kisii, Kenya, where thieves were caught and beaten after being confused by a herbalist's protection spell on a banana farm.
Francis Machoka, a devoted agriculturist and university graduate, had been struggling to secure a job from the government for two years. He eventually turned to farming as his sole source of income and food, investing in a small piece of land his parents offered him.
For five years, Machoka had managed to establish himself as a local supplier of various vegetables in his village. However, theft incidents had turned him into a watchman on his farm, but he was unable to catch anyone.
Desperate for a solution, Machoka visited Sheikh Shaban, a native healer and doctor, who had powers to net thieves terrorizing him. Shaban installed anti-theft charms on Machoka's farm, instructing him to wait for at least two weeks before anyone could steal from his farm.
Two weeks later, Machoka returned to his farm and found two grown men wailing in pain in his banana yard. They were holding sacks filled with raw bananas they had stolen and claimed they were unable to move due to excruciating pain.
Machoka called in neighbors, and the duo was beaten. They confessed to being the thieves who had earlier stolen from Machoka and pledged to return the stolen items. After returning the goods, they were arrested by local police and taken into protective custody.
